The Best Kept Secret is one of the best kept secrets when it comes to a resource for assisting people in paying for their medications and other health care cost. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that devotes it time researching for resources to help people. Please understand that does not provide financial assistance. The website might look overwhelming but it is really very easy to use.

As a pharmacist I am constantly faced with the individual who cannot afford the medication and/or care their healthcare professional has prescribed. I use this website daily, many times a day. The way this site works is, if you have a medication that has been prescribed for you, and you’ve taken it to the pharmacy to have it filled, and if after being filled the price is more than you can afford, you should navigate to this site to see if there is a resource to assistance. I strongly suggest you click on the link “First Time Users” and read through it and watch the video. On the left is another navigation outlining the different resources that are available on the site.

Let’s do a test. Let’s look for the drug Avonex®. This drug is used to treat Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Avonex® is the brand name. Click on the “Brand Name Drugs” link. Drugs are listed in alphabetical order. Scroll the list for Avonex®. Click on Avonex®. A new window opens and there is a link for a “Local Pharmacy Coupon”. The coupon allows for a 1 month free trial (this medication runs about $4,500-$5800 per month) and if your physician decides to keep you on this  medication, there is a form to complete (online) where you can get additional resources. Unfortunately this particular resource is not available to patients who have State Medicaid, Medicare or any other federal healthcare program.

Patients who have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis have many resources available to them, but we will discuss this on another day. In the meantime, please review this website: to see if you can find resources to assist you in your healthcare needs.
